Every device is assigned an IP address when it connects to the internet.
When connected in any location, you're assigned that IP address for your web browsing, but there are a few easy ways to change your IP address.
1. Change Your Location
The easiest way to change your IP address is to change your location. When you connect to the internet at your workplace, you’re assigned a different IP address than when you connect at home. Also, anywhere with WiFi will provide you with a different IP address. Head to your local coffee shop with Wifi to register with a different IP address.
2. Reset Your Modem
Another way to change your IP address is to reset your modem yourself.
Unplug your modem and wait for at least 30 seconds before you plug it back in to ensure it will fully reset. Your modem will then register with a different IP address once you plug it back in and it boots back up, some adjustments may be required to clear the settings on your computer as well.
3. Use a VPN
Another way to change your IP address is to hide your public IP address by using a privacy app or VPN, like TunnelBear. A VPN will provide you with a secure and private connection to the internet.
The IP Address assigned to you holds data about your location and a VPN will allow you to remain in your current physical location but browse the internet as if you're in a different one.
Additional Reasons to Hide Your IP address
When you’re travelling abroad, you can use a VPN to bypass country restrictions and safely access your email, favourite websites, local news and entertainment.
When your VPN or privacy app is turned On, you’ll also prevent tracking, avoid leaving a digital footprint, avoid ISP throttling and more.
These are a few ways to change your IP address, but a VPN app will take your privacy a step further by encrypting your data to ensure safe browsing.
